Got a Bug that
needs some love?

Bugmee VW restoration: A labor of love and a lifetime of experience.

I have been working on VWs for over 50 years. This is where it all started for me and here, I am back at it. When I was a teenager, I would work summers at our family-owned auto repair shop servicing VW air-cooled vehicles. I took a strong interest in the Beetle and Karmann Ghia pre-1975.

I was first introduced to VW by my father, Captain John W. Hurns, Jr. who served in WWII and Korea. He would often tell us stores of him capturing Nazi war time KdF-Wagens – for all you real VW enthusiasts you already know what those are. For those who don’t they were Kubelwagen (literally, “bucketcar”, But actually an abbreviated version of Kubelsitzewagen, “bucket seated car”, now known as the VW Thing and the Schwimmwagen (“swim car”). The latter was amphibious.

My Dad would disassemble them and see how they were engineered. He brought that knowledge to the states and started his own business.

I started my own business in 1981 specializing in foreign cars. I serviced all Air-Cooled Volkswagens, including complete engine builds, transaxle, front-end & electrical service and here we are 50 years later and I’m still doing it on top of full on and off body restoration and the transformations are amazing.
